Emma Fick was born in Covington, Louisiana. After completing her degree in English Literature and Art History at the University of Alabama, she moved to Serbia to teach English on a Fulbright scholarship where she began drawing and writing in this style. She works as a full-time artist and illustrator, traveling about 4 months a year and spending the other 8 in her home in New Orleans.
Emma began to chronicle Serbian culture, from grandiose themes to minute details, in a series of watercolor illustrations she called “Snippets.” Her first book of illustrations, Snippets of Serbia, was published in 2015 by a local Serbian publisher (Komshe) and illustrations from her Snippets of New Orleans were published in the largest New Orleans newspaper, The Times Picayune.
Emma’s most recent project, Border Crossings, published in April 2022 by Harper Design, captures her epic journey on the Trans-Siberian railway from Beijing to Moscow. With more than 200 watercolor illustrations and hand-drawn maps and texts, Border Crossings chronicles every aspect of the journey with detailed descriptions and illustrations that bring the adventure and beauty to life.
